to love acting

"DON'T burn bridges," says Tanya Garcia. The 22-year-old stunner may have become a soap star two years ago because of Channel 7's "Sana Ay Ikaw na Nga," but she started out in the biz via Channel 2's teleserye, "Esperanza," at age 17.
"I have no problems with my bosses, nagpaalam naman ako sa kanila ng maayos," says Tanya, adding that she understands colleague Angelika dela Cruz's decision to go back to her original network, ABS-CBN, after starring in two soap operas for GMA 7. "We go where our work takes us."
And Tanya is taking her work more seriously now. "At first, my goal was just to buy the things I wanted," she admits. "But I've learned to love acting, and to improve as a performer."
This includes being more accessible to fans. "With me, what you see is what you get," says Tanya, whose penetrating gaze makes her look suplada to many people. "But I've learned to reach out to them even when I'm very tired."
Tanya makes it clear, though, that she isn't being "plastic." "I really show how I feel. My parents raised me to fight for what is right. I can also be temperamental because I'm a Leo."
That's why she can identify more with her role in her new soap. Unlike the api-apihan Cecilia in "Sana Ay Ikaw na Nga," Althea in "Twin Hearts" is feisty.
She also enjoys working on her new show because the treatment is lighter and younger. The challenge, she adds, is how to maintain the high ratings of "Sana Ay Ikaw na Nga," which gave birth to the popular love team of Tanya and matinee idol Dingdong Dantes.
Tanya shares that she and Dingdong don't consciously work on their chemistry. "We don't exert effort to appear sweet together," she points out. "We don't meddle with each other's personal lives, but we're close. We have common friends and we go out as a group."
Tanya is glad that she and Dingdong are pursuing their individual careers. On the silver screen, Dingdong has been paired with Judy Ann Santos, Jolina Magdangal (in the forthcoming "Annie B") and Rica Peralejo (in "Malikmata").
Dingdong's TV leading lady, on the other hand, gets cozy with Wendell Ramos in Viva Films' "Filipinas." It's special to Tanya because it is the first time that she's working with director Joel Lamangan and drama heavyweights Maricel Soriano, Dawn Zulueta, Richard Gomez and Aiko Melendez.
It also marks Tanya's foray into more daring roles. But she isn't about to give the Viva Hot Babes a run for their money. "I can do kissing scenes, but that's about it," she declares.
